It’s nice to own a car, but when it comes to changing a flat tire and you don’t know how to do it, it can be pretty frustrating. Knowing how to change a flat tire is necessary for every car owner and drivers as you can’t rely on your phone to call someone all the time because you might experience a busted tire while you’re on the road where there is no signal.
STEPS ON HOW TO CHANGE YOUR FLAT TIRE
- APPLY WHEEL WEDGES
To ensure that your vehicle doesn’t roll or move while you replace your flat tire, place the wheel wedges in front of the tires if you’re replacing a rear tire and behind the rear tires if you’re replacing the front tire.
- REMOVE THE HUBCAP AND LOOSEN THE LUG NUTS
Remove the hubcap by using the flat end of your lug wrench and afterwards turn the lug nuts counterclockwise to loosen it.
- USE THE JACK
Place the jack under the vehicle and raise it until the flat tire is high enough. Remove the lug nuts.
- REMOVE AND REPLACE THE TIRE
Pull the tire towards you until it is unattached from the hub. Mount the spare tire on the hub and push until the lug bolts are visible through the rim.
- TIGHTEN THE LUG NUTS AND LOWER THE VEHICLE
Tighten the lug nuts back into the lug bolts with your hands first and lower down the vehicle. Tighten them afterwards with the wrench after the vehicle is completely lowered down on the ground and replace the hub cap.
- CHECK YOUR TIRE’S PRESSURE
The last step is to check your tire’s pressure and you’re good to go!
WHAT TOOLS SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?
There are necessary tools you should always have with you in case you need to change your flat tire. Vehicle owner’s manual, jack, lug wrench, wheel wedges and a spare tire are a few tools you will need. You should also have a working flashlight with you in case you have to replace your tire during the night.
